Economic Resilience: "Keeping your business and the economy up and running no matter what..."

Every major metropolitan region in the world is vulnerable to a variety of threats, both natural and manmade. Given our complex and highly interconnected economy, many of these threats (e.g., bio-terror, cyber-attack, etc.) could result in a prolonged disruption in the flow of goods and services. Such a disruption would be economically devastating at the regional, national, and even international levels.

In response to this, we are forming a business-led community, in partnership with government and academia, aimed at developing and selling products and services for strengthening economic resilience, starting at the regional level. Note that this will be private sector-led. In the current budget climate, we can no longer depend solely on government to fund major initiatives such as this.

The potential for business opportunities is substantial. As products and services are developed and marketed to businesses and organizations in one region, the same products and services can be tailored and marketed to other metropolitan regions throughout the world.

While many businesses already have disaster recovery plans in-place, we are hard-pressed to find anyone addressing the broader issue of economic resilience. As we like to say, “It doesn’t do you any good if you are up and running and your customers and suppliers aren’t.”

We hope you’ll join our community and help pave the way for keeping business and commerce up and running even when disaster strikes.
